Surveying property impacts on Spring lake in April of 2019, many docks are completely submerged. One dock, permitted 30 years ago sits 5" underwater and is completely submersed from November to early summer. At a water level of 98 cm, 9 docks are underwater, 7 more docks are within 2 inches of complete submersion.
Some of these docks have already been raised once. Another 6 docks sit less than 6" above 98 cm. It is only a matter of time before these docks too will be submerged if the lake level is not effectively managed.
Of the 42 docks on spring lake, about half of them are fixed and most of those at risk of complete submersion.
Land losses are also prevalent. Studies of one property show a loss of 25' over the 2' of increase in the last 30 years. Another 40' will be lost with the next 14" of rise. Many other properties have also lost land to the flooding and suffer waterlogged conditions that kill trees and landscape.
