Rising Water Levels

Since 1987, Spring Lake has gained over 2 feet of additional height.  This has waterlogged and killed trees and landscape, consumed property and docks.  Left unchecked it will continue to cause damage to homeowners and the forest on county land until it threatens the closest homes on the lake. Various efforts to manage lake levels have been tried with little support from the county for any real and lasting solution. This has slowed the rise but an effective management plan needs to be adopted before, damage is irreversible.

On average the lake has been rising over 3/4” a year.   Today I counted 9 docks underwater, 7 within 2 inches of the being fully submersed, 3 within 6" and 3 greater than 6". Many docks only have a few years left before they join the other neighborhood docks that spend much of the year underwater.
